Sopwith Pup

Sopwith Pup Sb-4 seen shortly after delivery at De Moeren airfield in 1917.
Single engine single seat fighter aircraft
As of 1917, a small number (6 ?) of Sopwith Pup fighter aircraft were delivered to the Belgian Air Service. Initially serving with N° 3 Squadron (Feuille de Houx) and N° 5 Squadron (Comet) the Pups were mainly used for escort and fighter missions. However, as soon as the more potent Sopwith F.1 Camel became available the survivors were relegated to the pilot school at Juvisy-sur-Orge (F.) were the soldiered on until the end of the war. In Belgian service the Pups were given the serial prefix “Sp” (known are Sb-4 and Sb-6) while in service at the Juvisy-sur-Orge pilot school they also sported an individual school number in the “15x” series.
