Returning to his home base Beauvechain on September 1st, 1947, pilot Sgt. Victor Claes could not completely lower the undercarriage of his N° 349 Squadron Supermarine Spitfire F.XIVc NH655 (later SG-1)/GE-A, due to a mechanical failure. The pilot made a "textbook" belly landing limiting the damage to the aircraft which was operational again within months.
