As was the case with The Netherlands, Belgium also received 21 Republic F-84E Thunderjet fighter-bombers from the U.S. Government. The first four aircraft were delivered in crates and by ship to the Antwerpen port on March 12th, 1951 after which the machines were assembled at Melsbroek airbase. On 3 April 1951 the first three Thunderjets were officially presented to the Belgian Air Force. First unit to receive this American jets was the 2nd Wing based at Florennes. Later in its career the F-84E also served with N° 9 Wing based at Bierset and N° 10 Wing of Kleine Brogel. The "E" models were replaced by the more advanced F-84G Thunderjet.
