When increasing power for take off from Bierset airbase on 8 December 1955 the engine of Republic F-84F Thunderstreak FU-9/YL-G of N° 3 Squadron - 2nd Wing exploded. The aircraft was completely destroyed in the ensuing fire. Fortunately the pilot could escape in time.
