Wings of Honor: 15 New Pilots Ready for Takeoff
2026-09-18
Aviation Day
New Wings
On Friday, September 18, the Beauvechain Air Base provided the setting for a special moment within the Belgian Air Force. During a solemn ceremony, fifteen young pilots officially received their coveted wings, marking the completion of their intensive training and the beginning of their operational careers in the Air Force.
The ceremony took place under the watchful eye of the Commander of the Air Force, Major General Aviator Bruno Beeckmans, and Lieutenant Colonel Aviator Sam "Fonske" Van Der Linden, Corps Commander of the Air Force Competence Centre (CC Air). Numerous national and local authorities, as well as representatives of Defense, were also present to congratulate the young officers.
This graduating class consists of fifteen successful pilots who have completed a demanding training curriculum over recent years. The wing presentation marks the symbolic transition from trainee to operational pilot. These new aviators will be distributed across various capabilities within the armed forces:
• Five fighter pilots tasked with guarding the airspace.
• Seven helicopter pilots for tactical and humanitarian missions.
• Three transport pilots for strategic deployments.
Traditionally, the official part was rounded off with a fly-by. The overflight served not only as a visual tribute to the newly badged pilots, but also as an expression of appreciation for the instructors and ground crew who made the training possible.
With these fifteen additions, the Air Force welcomes a fresh boost of strength. The pilots will soon join their respective units to apply their skills in support of Defense's national and international missions.
