At the beginning of the hostilities in 1914 J. d'Hespel reported to the Belgian authorities together with his privately owned Morane Type H.
The Morane (registered C1) formed part of the 5th Squadron which was composed of requisitioned aircraft. (Two Bleriot XIa2s, 1 Deperdussin and the Morane)
