From August 1937 onwards, 22 Gloster Gladiators were delivered to squadron I/I/2 Aé based at Schaffen/Diest.
Most of them were destroyed on the ground at Beauvechain/Le Culot airfield on 11 May 1940.

Gloster Gladiator G-27 of the 1/I/2 Aé Squadron as it appeared on the eve of the Second World War at Schaffen-Diest airfield.
Unfortunately this machine was shot down on 11 May 1940 by a Bf109 from I/JG1 near Zichem. Its pilot, Kapt. Guisgand being injured, later died of his wounds.

Gloster Gladiator G38 was the personal mount of General Hiernaux, the fighter was not armed and did not wear the "Comet" marking of 1/I/2Aé.

This non-identified Gloster Gladiator I overran the Oostende-Stene airfield and ended up into the bordering ditch.
