Aartrijke-Sparappelhoek

Aerial view of Aartrijke-Sparappelhoek airfield taken by the crew Cpt. Jaumotte (pilot) and Lt. Wouters (observer) on 3 July 1917 from an altitude of 4.900 meters. This as one of two German airfields situated around the village of Aartrijke. (the other being near the Torhoutstraat). Untill the end of the hostilities Sparappelhoek remained a major fighter base and as such suffered numerous allied bombings, even from the huge Handley Page O/100's of N° 7A and 7(N) squadrons.
