The first ever airshow held in Belgium was organised between 25 May and 2 June 1908 at Gent. Only one "heavier than air" machine was presented, the Voisin Farman I, but this was only the second flying machine (after the Wright Brothers' 1904 Flyer II) to remain in the air for more than one minute and fly a complete circle. This exceptional airshow can also boost the fact that Henri Farman made the world's first sustained flight with a passenger (on 30 may 1908 with Mr. Archdeacon), the first flight of an aeroplane in Belgium and the first ever flight with a female passenger (on 31 May 1908 Miss Pottelsberghe de la Potterie). Also important was the fact the Baron de Caters, one of Belgium's aeronautical pioneers, was present at Gent and it is said that this event triggered off his passion for aircraft.
