Melsbroek Open Door 25 June 1961

On Sunday 25 June 1961, merely one year after the Belgian Air Force went through a very eventful period with the independence of the former colony Congo, a small scale open-door was organised at Melsbroek airbase near Brussels. Single copies of almost every type in service provided a very good overview of the then current equipment.

A pictorial impression:

From left to right Lockheed T-33A , Fouga Magister MT-25, Gloster Meteor T.8 target tug EG-227/B2-X, Repulic F-84F Thunderstreak FU-187/Z6-J, Republic RF-84F Thunderflash FR-8/H8-H, Hawker Hunter F.6, Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck and Percival Pembroke RM-12/OT-ZAL. The picture was taken from a Fairchild C-119G Flying Boxcar.

The static display aircraft befor being moved to their presentation positions.

Part of the static display looking to the south while a Sud Aviation Caravelle of Sabena is taking off.

In 1961 the Potez Air Fouga Magister MT-25 was still a novelty to the general public.
