BRUMIL's finest hour |
|
The completely renewed military airport part of Melsbroek airbase (BRUMIL) adjacent to Zaventem's Brussels Airport has had it's day of glory in the framework of the 8th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 8) organised in Brussels on 4 and 5 October 2010. This biennial summit is
the privileged occasion to give expression to the common views of Asia
and As many of the ASEM partner countries are represented by their state leaders or highest representatives the number of governmental aircraft involved was quite impressive to say the least. The machines were parked at Abelag or at the new BRUMIL airport.
BRUMIL's apron packed with Asian wide-bodies and a vintage Russian as a replacement for an IL96.
One of two Japan Air Self Defense Force's or 航空自衛隊 Boeing 747-400. This one is 20-1102
Always bring your own set of tools ....
The Russian Government had planned to bring its delegation to the ASEM 8 summit by Ilyushin Il-96 but for unknown reasons send this much more interesting and very rare vintage Ilyushin Il-62M RA-86540 (cn 3546548)
.
Certainly not a common site at Brussels Airport is the Boeing 777-26K/ER VN-A143 (cn 33502/450) of Vietnam Airlines .
Equally rare for the Belgian capital's airport is Boeing 747-437 VT-EVA "Agra" (cn 28094/1089) of Air India bringing the Indian delegation
;
"Air Force One" - Republic of Korea style. Boeing 747-4B5 HL7465 (cn 26412/1284) "Code One" is on long-term lease by the government from Korean Air.
European delegations arrived with aircraft of a slighly more modest scale - Danish Air Force Canadair CL-600-2B16 Challenger C-168
Italian Aeronautica Militare Dassault Falcon 900EX MM-62171 arriving with a delegation.
