Florennes International Airshow 2012
Florennes Air Base was the obvious selection to organise the annual Belgian Air Force air show as this year it celebrates its 70th anniversary. Indeed it was the German Luftwaffe who in 1942 established a night fighter base at Florennes. Taken over by the USAAF in 1944, Florennes became primarily a fighter bomber base. After a short interruption the Belgian Air Force finally took command of the base in 1947, operating over the years a variety of aircraft such as the Supermarine Spitfire F(R) 14, Republic F-84E and G Thunderjet, Republic F-84F Thunderstreak, Dassault Mirage and finally the present day Lockheed Martin F-16AM & BM.

For the occasion of the anniversary and Air Show, former Florennes base Commander Col Avi BEM e.r André "Phil" Dambly, has written a very interesting and well illustrated book in French language on the early history of Florennes airbase etiteled:
"Naissance et développement de la base aérienne de Florennes 1943-1955"
For sure a "must have" which will be available during the Florennes International Air Show at the price of 30 Euro.
During the International Air Show on June 22rd and 24th, 2012 no less than 5 aerial demonstration teams will be displaying: the Spanish Aguila, The Baltic Bees, the Swiss PC7 Team, Wings of Storm and the Royal Jordanian Falcons.
