Another successful edition of the “Chip-Meet” took place at Zoersel – Malle (EBZR) for the third time. The pre-registration of participants was showing a new record to be expected, unfortunately some last minute cancellations due to technical reasons, was bringing finally 13 different airplanes from Denmark (4), United Kingdom (5), the Netherlands (1) and Belgium (3) to this annual event.
Some of the participants of the 9th annual Chipmeet evoking memories of a 1950's RAF training base. In contrast to last year, good weather conditions during the 4 days gave excellent flying opportunities for practising various training and formations flights. About 35 pilots were present for this excursions including Robert Miller with +/- 4300 hours on Chipmunk and even a Belgian female pilot Nicole Marien with already aprox 200 flying hours on this type.
SHC.1 Chipmunck Mk. 22 (ex WB671) now registered in the UK as G-BBMZ. A new record was broken on Saturday evening when all Chipmunks took to the air for a formation flight with 13 planes over flying Antwerp City and surroundings, Zoersel, Deurne and Weelde airports. Furthermore some interesting visitors were present such as a Yak.18, various SV.4’s, Piaggio FW.149 and some very low passes over the runway by a Dutch B.25 Mitchell. All of this activity was viewable to the public on this NATO reserve airfield located in a beautiful green environment.
